a class with PORTLAND COMMUNITY COLLEGE
WEDNESDAYS 10-12:20 @ PORTLAND ART MUSEUM
Session 1: September 30 - October 14
Session 2: October 21 - November 4
Explore the expanded spaces of Portland Art Museum through slow looking, conversation and fresh perspectives. No art experience needed - just bring your curiosity. Together, we'll notice more and see what emerges.
Experience art as a catalyst for insight, dialogue, and discovery. Engage with a select group of artworks through guided conversations that invite observation and multiple perspectives. As we look together, you'll strengthen habits of attention, interpretation, empathy and open-minded thinking. The skills developed here support clearer reasoning, stronger problem solving and thoughtful decision-making in everyday life.
2-DAY FACILITATION WORKSHOP
Shift your perspective and skillset from participant to facilitator in this workshop. People feel heard, supported, and empowered when they are guided by a facilitator who balances the requirements of creating inclusive space while fulfilling discussion objectives.
This training is perfect for educators, designers, and professionals interested in learning and practicing skilled facilitation.
Participants will spend two days carefully considering inclusive, learner-centered teaching practices. Learn, practice, and reflect using the Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) method and leave this training with all the tools to start facilitating discussions. We will put theory into practice.
This workshop is all about the critical tools of facilitation:
● careful listening
● linking ideas
● framing concepts
● paraphrasing comments
● questioning to encourage divergent thinking and supporting ideas with evidence

Ever wondered what other people see when they look at art?
Now is your chance.
Take a little time to feed your curiosity and your spirit by engaging in close-looking and conversation.
Look Club with Upper Left Projects is a free, come-as-you-are, no-prep-needed event designed to stretch your ways of seeing and tap into curiosity about art and one another...and you don't have to know a thing about art.
Collective time looking gives everyone the chance to be part of a hive-mind - getting to see new things through other people’s eyes and experiences. It's about art appreciation as much as it is also about empathy and creative problem solving.

Join us and Portland Community College for a new class this Fall. Wednesdays from 10-12:20 at the Portland Art Museum. Classes begin September 30 and run through November 4.
