Ever wondered what other people see when they look at art?
Now is your chance.
Take a little time to feed your curiosity and your spirit by engaging in close-looking and conversation.
Look Club with Upper Left Projects is a free, come-as-you-are, no-prep-needed event designed to stretch your ways of seeing and tap into curiosity about art and one another...and you don't have to know a thing about art.
Collective time looking gives everyone the chance to be part of a hive-mind - getting to see new things through other people’s eyes and experiences. It's about art appreciation as much as it is also about empathy and creative problem solving.
Join us at The Schnitzer Collection to view and wonder through the third exhibition in the "A Fountain of Creativity" series - featuring several generations of Northwest artists whose work was once exhibited at the Fountain Gallery (1961-1986). It tells a powerful story of how art can be in inventive, innovative and transformative.
FACILITATION WORKSHOP
COST: $600 (please see sliding scale fee options)
This training is perfect for educators, designers, and professionals interested in learning the skills of facilitation and best practices in effective group discussion.
People feel heard, supported, and empowered when they are guided by a facilitator who balances the requirements of creating inclusive space while fulfilling discussion objectives.
Workshop participants will carefully consider inclusive, learner-centered teaching practices. Learn, practice, and reflect using the Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) method and leave this training with all the tools you need to start facilitating discussions with your group. We will put theory into practice.
We use art as the first provocation for group discussions for many reasons. Carefully selected art is accessible to viewers, it provides an authentic problem to be solved and it creates space for unique personal and intellectual engagement.
Shift your perspective and skillset from discussion participant to group facilitator in this 2-day workshop.
This workshop is all about the critical tools of facilitation:
● careful listening
● linking ideas
● framing concepts
● paraphrasing comments
● questioning to encourage divergent thinking and supporting ideas with evidence
